The Foundation for Daviess County Public Schools will hold an inaugural Alumni & Friends Festival August 24 and 25 with proceeds generated by the events going to an endowment that provides grants to Daviess County teachers and administrators to fund educational opportunities, said Executive Director Vicki Quisenberry.
The festival begins Friday with a "pre-union" in the RiverPark Center lobby at Friday After 5. That evening, Foundation representatives will be on hand at both local football games — Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic at home, and the Apollo Eagles battling the Owensboro Red Devils at OHS, both at 7 p.m.
Saturday begins with an 8 a.m. 3K run on the cross country course at Yellow Creek Park. Daviess County 6K relays will follow. Scores for the three teams — Apollo, Team DC and the Friends of the Foundation — will be composed of the top five male and top five female finishers. Racers can check-in early at Friday After 5 or at 7 a.m. the day of the race. Both Apollo and Daviess County are planning runner reunions at the event. To register, pick up forms from Fleet Feet, Legends or YMCA or register through the Foundation’s web site.
At 11 a.m., there will be a Tent City Meet & Greet in the Corporate Center parking lot at Fourth and Frederica streets. It coincides with the opening of the riverfront and the air show. Veterans of Tamarack Elementary School plan to celebrate 50 years with time capsule items, and Apollo's class of 1979 reserved a spot as well. To reserve space, register online or email Hannah Thurman at hanna.r.thurman@gmail.com.
The weekend culminates, Quisenberry said, with the DCPS Alumni & Friends Extravaganza where Sheila Ann Miller's Alumni Choir will perform, followed by dinner catered by Moonlite and "Dancing Through the Decades with DiscDaddy."
"We've got something really special," Quisenberry said. "We're working with local leaders, a few coaches and beloved teachers to auction dinner for six with our alumni students and teachers at the head of the table."
Available through August 10, tickets went on sale last week.
Table hosts include Joe and Vicki Bowen, Waymond and Alyce Morris, Pam and Allen Burns, Anita and Claude Newman, Shirley and Gary Cecil, Natalie Powers and Bradly Payne, Beverly and John Dawson, Tony and Pam Rowe, former Gov. and retired U.S. Sen. Wendell H. Ford, Kevin and Rebecca Schwartz, Paul and Michael Gray, Stu and Kathy Silberman, Don and Marla Moore, Jane Stevenson and Brad Wilkerson.
VIP tables will also be available for $400 and individual seats for $50 each.
Reservations may be made online at foundationfordcps.org or by sending a check with attendee names to
